Prince Edward Island. Roads have
played an integral role in the development
of the province. Along with the
sea, the Island's early roads provided
the necessary network for settlement
and commerce. They took farmers to
market and merchants to their business,
clergy to their flock and doctors to
their pat ients. Communication was
only as fast as a fair wind or the worst
road.
Although our records for these beginnings
are sparse, and sometimes conflicting,
much can be inferred or verified
from them. It is with the help of
such records that we can retrace the
