| description | The Western Road is uncharacteristic
of much of Prince Edward
Island. The land is flat and the landscape
featureless for mile after mile.
After the O'Leary corner there is more
of interest to attract the eye of the traveller,
most of it man-made: Hernewood
Junior High School, and its big sister a
little further on, Westisle Composite
High School — massive modern complexes
of brick and glass. In contrast,
there is the lacy delicacy of timberwalled
St. Anthony's Roman Catholic
Church at Bloomfield and the occasional
verandah-ed, L-shaped Island
farmhouse. But the road begins to give
promise of arriving somewhere when it
veers right to carry the traveller into
Alberton, the quintessential Prince
Edward Island small town. | |
