| description | Sir Andrew Macphail (1864- 1938), a native of Orwell, was McGill University's first professor of the history of medicine. He was also a distinguished essayist, editor, social critic, soldier, and applied scientist. The following lecture was delivered by Ian Ross Robertson on 29 July 1975 at the historic Uigg grammar school, which Macphail attended in the 1870s. It was sponsored by the Orwell Corner project, and coordinator Malcolm MacPherson presided. There were in the audience several persons who had known Sir Andrew Macphail.
