Description

Le docteur André Gallant est né le 29 mai 1864, le fils de Pacifique Gallant et Judith Arsenault de St-Chrysostome. Il enseigna à Miscouche et à Abram-Village avant d'aller à l'Université Laval. Il a reçu son diplôme en médecine en 1893. Le 30 octobre de cette même année, il épousa Marie-Anne, la fille du sénateur Joseph-Octave Arsenault et Gertrude Gaudet d'Abram-Village. En 1902, la famille quitta Wellington pour aller à Meteghan en Nouvelle-Écosse, mais ce ne fut pas long que le docteur a eu la piqûre pour aller explorer l'ouest canadien. Ils sont restés là-bas deux ans avant de retourner à Meteghan et ensuite à Wellington en 1912. Après deux ans, Antonio Painchaud des Îles de la Madeleine est venu demander au docteur André d'aller travailler au Havre Aubert. Le médecin a tant aimé cet endroit qu'il y est resté jusqu'à sa mort en 1952. André était aussi architecte, ayant dessiné les plans de trois maisons à Wellington. / Dr. André Gallant was born on May 29, 1864, son of Pacifique Gallant and Judith Arsenault of St. Chrysostome. He taught in Miscouche and Abrams Village before attending Laval University. He was awarded his medical degree in 1893. On October 30th of the same year, he married Marie-Anne, daughter of Senator Joseph-Octave Arsenault and Gertrude Gaudet of Abrams Village. In 1902, the family left Wellington for Meteghan in Nova Scotia, but it was not long before the doctor felt the urge to explore Western Canada. The family stayed in the West for two years before returning to Meteghan and then Wellington in 1912. After two years, Antonio Painchaud from the Magdalen Islands, asked Dr. Gallant if he would work at Havre Aubert. The doctor loved this place so much that he remained there until his death in 1952. He was also an architect, having drawn up plans for three homes in Wellington.
