Description
The first migration to New Zealand
of Scots from Nova Scotia
in 1852, led by the Reverend Norman
McLeod, tends to overshadow most
other expeditions from this region. Yet
no fewer than four additional migrations
originated from eastern Ca n a d a -
three from Prince Edward Island and
one from New Brunswick.
In 1856, Captain James Meiklejohn
built the Union and sailed with his
family from Charlottetown on a trading
voyage. He sold his ship at Sydney
before going on to New Zealand in
March, 1858.
