Description
It is supposed that beavers inhabited many ofthe streams of this province before man, thearch-enemy appeared on the scene. The lateDr. Caven, * we are told, discovered traces ofbeaver dams on Dunk River. It is evidentthat our climate and natural conditions arefavorable to the existence of this valuableand harmless furbearer. There are manyacres of low lands that are absolutely valuelessand which could be used very profitablyas beaver ranches. The animals provide forthemselves, do no damage to property, theirfood and the material they use for their damsand huts consisting almost exclusively of thesmall sapling trees growing on the banks ofthe streams in which they live.Charlottetown Guardian, 31 October
