On my first visit to Prince EdwardIsland, when I was 14, I met mymother's cousin, Charlottetown architectJames Harris. He asked me if Iowned a sketchbook, for he had beentold I liked to draw. No, I said, for thethought to have such a thing had neveroccurred to me. Immediately he setabout making me one. He cut up severallarge sheets of drawing paper intosmaller pieces, bound them togetherbetween cardboard covers with string,and supplied me with a set of colouredpencils. My first sketch was of theHarris cottage at Holland Cove.
