Lord Selkirk of Prince Edward Island

Description
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a pleasure
to be here in Belfast this evening, talking
about Lord Selkirk before an audience
which includes a number of descendants
of those who emigrated under his
auspices to Prince Edward Island at the
beginning of the nineteenth century.
Many of the surnames of people I met
before the lecture are familiar to me
from the records of the early Selkirk
settlement, and I will not attempt to list
them only for fear of leaving one out. It
is also very fitting that we should be
assembled here tonight to talk about
Selkirk, for the year 1978 marks the
175th anniversary of the founding of the
first Selkirk settlements on the Island but
a short distance from this room.
