05 Volcano Years and the Historic Climiate of PEI p23-29

Description
According to The Climates of Canada, Prince Edward Island has “some of the most variable dayto-day weather experienced anywhere in the country.” In light of the Island’s seasonally shifting location at the confluence of maritime, continental, tropical, and arctic air masses, this dynamism is to be expected. However, early European settlers on the Island were totally unprepared for such variability on a daily basis, let alone from year to year. They came to learn the seasonality of their new home through personal experience, from local Mi’kmaq and Acadians, and other prior European settlers, if such neighbours could be found.
