Description
Big Jim Pendergast was my friend, someone for whom I had greataffection while he was alive, and thememory of our friendship still means agreat deal to me. It would be impossiblefor me to write anything definitive, because I really don't know that muchabout him — the way we oftentimesdon't know that much about ourfriends, and care less. All I can do ispresent to you the Jim that I knew, theJim, as I said in dedicating LawrenceDoyle to him, that was my first friendon Prince Edward Island. I am suresome of you here knew him far betterthan I did, but none of you knew himthe way that I did, and Fm proud topresent to you that Jim, in the hopethat seeing him from my angle mayenrich your own vision. As I say, hewas my friend.
