Description
On 1 July, 1873, a group of dignitaries gathered on thebalcony of Province House to witness theConsummating Proclamation of Prince Edward Island's entryinto the Dominion of Canada. According to the Patriot (anadmittedly anti-confederate newspaper) "the audience withinhearing consisted of three persons, and even they did notappear to be very attentive. After the reading of theProclamation was concluded, the gentlemen on the balconygave a cheer but the three persons below [who] at thatmoment represented the people of Prince Edward Island,responded never a word."
