Description
During the 1920s, North
America's wets and drys
watched Canada with interest , as
one by one, starting with Quebec
and ending with Nova Scotia, the
provinces abandoned prohibition
and brought in regimes of government
control and sale of alcohol. The
one except ion was Prince Edward
Island - one of the last "Outposts
of Prohibit ion" according to the
Association Against the Prohibition
Amendment, an American repeal
group. From the 1920s until its
repeal in 1948, prohibition on Prince
Edward Island was of international
interest. This was particularly true
during the heated debates over
American national prohibit ion,
which ended only in 1933.
