Description
John Walker (1836 - ??) was a farmer who was born, raised and lived in Launching Place, Lot 55.
John Walker: 1876 Survey has John Walker being born at Launching Place (Lot 55) in 1836. In correlation with the Survey, the 1841 Census has a John Walker being the head of household in 1841, we can assume that this had been Walker’s father, to whom he would have been named after. Walker had lived with another boy under 16 years old, three girls under 16, two males between 16-45 and a female between the ages of 16-45. Of the eight in his Walker’s family one can presume that Walker had possibly two brothers and three sisters living with his Mother and Father. All of Walker’s family had been Roman Catholics. Jumping forward to the 1881 census records, only one John Walker fits the geographical location, although not the age, of the John Walker we know of in the 1876 survey. Here, Walker is listed as 41 years of age, Roman Catholic, and still living in Lot 55. Of these three primary traits the age is the most questionable as John Walker, who was 5 at the time of the 1841 census, would be roughly 45 years of age, not 41, at this time. Walker’s mailing address is not listed in the 1876 Survey. By the time of the 1891 census there are two John Walker’s living in Lot 55, John H. Walker, 56, who fits the date of birth, religion, and geographical location, and John D. Walker, 53, who is also Roman Catholic. It is possible that John H. Walker is the John Walker who wrote the 1876 Survey, and that John D. Walker is the other boy, John H’s little brother, that was recorded in Walker’s father’s family in the 1841 census. Also worth noting is a James Walker, age 50, Joseph P. Walker, age 9, and Josephine Walker, age 6, all live in Lot 55 as well, however James Walker is younger than John H. and John D. and conflicts with the amount of brothers for John H. according to the 1841 census. (Possibly a cousin, OR another brother born after the 1841 Census, OR just unrelated entirely.) By the 1901 census we still have John H. Walker, aged 66, living in Lot 55 as a farmer accompanied by John D. Walker. Another name that arises is J. Joseph Walker, aged 25, and J. Alfred Walker, aged 5. J. Joseph listed occupation is “Farmer’s Son,” possible to assume that J. Alfred Walker may be J. Joseph’s son and that J. Joseph may be the son of John H. or John D[?]
